SOKONG! Volume 02: Martha Salon
Kami diundang Fotobook DUMMIES day untuk ikut serta dalam pameran “Tropical Reading: Unfolding Photobook” di pon ding, Taiwan, 10-31 Desember 2021. Pameran ini adalah kelanjutan dari proyek penelitian Fotobook DUMMIES day yang telah diterbitkan pada 2020 “Prologue | A Way of Seeing: Reading Southeast Asia Through Photobook and Self-publishing”.
Esensi dari pameran ini adalah buku, tetapi bukanlah sebuah pameran buku. Pameran ini ingin melihat buku dan pameran sebagai hubungan dialektis yang memperluas konsep buku sebagai ruang, dan untuk mendekonstruksi komposisi buku foto melalui proses pembukaan/pembeberan (unfold).

Kami memanfaatkan momen pameran ini untuk membuat SOKONG! Volume 02.
Kami mengajak Ika Vantiani sebagai editor tamu yang memilih pendekatan eksperimental dalam membangun percakapan antarfoto dan antarteks lewat karya kontributor terpilih Publikasi Digital SOKONG! edisi ke-10 s/d ke-15, enam edisi yang telah diterbitkan berkala pada tahun 2019-2020.

“Martha Salon” is a photo book, an abstraction from six thematic digital publications that have been published regularly by SOKONG! in 2019-2020. SOKONG! invited Ika Vantiani – an artist, curator, and crafter – to be a guest editor who has the right to de-/recontextualize a total of 367 photos from 69 contributors from various regions in Indonesia who entered through the open call for digital publications SOKONG!.
Ika Vantiani chose “Martha Salon” as the title because she applied the concept of a make-over in the salon in her editing practices. In addition to selecting and compiling photos and texts from contributors, Ika also includes her old photo collections. Then Ika collaged all the materials and built a ‘conversation’ from two different periods.
